Game Description

Appetite of the Abyss is a survival cooking roguelite where each run challenges you to feed a dangerous monster before it turns on you. Manage scarce resources, build temporary structures using cards, cook meals through preparation choices, and plan ahead using forecasted threats in a changing world.

Gameplay Overview

  • Build temporary structures using a limited card deck

  • Cook meals through preparation choices and learn hidden tastes as the creature wants

  • Choose forecasted paths and prepare for upcoming threats

  • Face different creatures with unique traits, each run

  • Unlock permanent upgrades between runs

Cards are the primary way players shape the world. Each day, a limited set of cards is drawn to place buildings that produce resources, process ingredients, or provide utility. Buildings occupy limited space, consume shared resources, and disappear after producing a finite output, forcing you to constantly adapt rather than rely on fixed builds.

Each run features a different monster behavior with its own traits, temperament. Monsters vary in hunger decay, aggression, and how they react to mistakes. Every monster has a hidden taste preference, and the game never directly reveals what it likes. You must learn through reactions, feedback, and consequences, adapting their strategy to each monster you face.

Cooking is driven by preparation choices rather than reflex-based actions. Every meal’s taste is defined by the monster. Meals are prepared using stirring style, heat level, and chopping method etc, and the same recipe can succeed or fail depending on how it is cooked. You must experiment, observe monster reactions, and gradually learn what each monster enjoys and improve the meal to permanently discover it.

Before danger strikes, you may choose between forecasted paths that hint at upcoming raids, weather effects, or events. These forecasts can be normal, medium and hard difficulty with rewards when survived. Choosing the wrong path can lead to resource loss, building destruction, or long-term setbacks.

Earn Monster's Gold by cooking well, feeding efficiently, and surviving escalating threats. Gold is used to unlock permanent upgrades such as new cards, improved cooking options, and enhanced monster interactions. At the end of each run, monsters judge the player’s performance through reactive dialogue, reinforcing both success and failure.
