Game Description

Rivet & Ruin is a procedurally generated tower defense game with roguelike elements. Strategically place towers to control creep pathing and build collectors to increase resource generation. Uncover land hidden in the fog to secure more territory for expansion, but beware of the enemies lurking within.

Exposition

Rivet & Ruin is a procedural tower defense game where the player's castle is located deep in the woods. Visibility is low during both day and night. A lone hero is deployed to protect the castle by building defensive structures and joining in on the fight.

The woodlands seem untouched by humans. Land development in the surrounding area has only just started. Decaying trees and boulders are scattered across the land, hindering new constructions. Untouched deposits of resources can be found in these woods, useful for currency generation.

The thicket surrounding the castle is incredibly dense, lowering visibility and preventing further expansion into these areas. An old bestiary states that creatures of evil origin thrive in these woods and will be hostile towards human activity. Some believe these creatures are protecting the forest since they do not wander outside of their biome and only appear when their territory is being threatened.

These creatures do not sleep. They are relentless at taking down the enemy and tend to amass small armies that charge towards their target with no regards to their own safety. These armies vary in size and composition. Some armies are lead by larger and stronger creatures that often have special traits.

Although these creatures never sleep, they do prefer the night time. During the night, the creatures become more feral and cunning, gaining strength and speed. Some creatures may also change their behavior during the night and start attacking buildings and defenses.

To fend off these hostile creatures and secure territorial expansion, the kingdom has ordered a lone hero to command a line of defense at the territory borders. The hero is responsible for planning defenses and preventing the castle from being destroyed until the kingdom can fully secure the border in that area. To do this, the hero receives building permits from the kingdom.
